A Clinical Study of 64 Cases of Tsutsugamushi Disease in Pusan, Kyung Nam Province

Abstract
|
|
|
We reviewed 64 cases of Tsutsugamushi disease admitted to Daedong Hospital from 1989 to 1991.
@ES The following clinical results were obtained.
@EN 1) Seasonally, the 64 cases occurred mostly from September to December
2) The female cases were 35 cases(55%0 and the age distribution was mainly fifties and sixties.
3) The 42 cases(66%0 were associated with farm work & climbing.
4) On physical examination, eschar was observed in 46 cases and mainly in trunk & extremities.
5) On clinical manifestation, fever(100%), chill(60%), myalgia(49%), headache(50%) and low back pain98%) were observed.
6) Indirect immunofluorescent antibody test was performed in 64 cases of which 52 cases (80%) were positive. Weil-Felix reaction was performed in 64 cases of which 47 cases(73%) were positive. Among 46 cases with eschar, 43 cases(93%) were
positive to
indirect immunofluorescent antibody test.
7) On laboratory finding, leukocytosis(21%), leukopenia95%) and thrombocytopenia(10%) were observed. The degree of elevation of AST/ALT was to 3 times the normal values (63%). On simple chestX-ray abnormal X-ray finding (13%) were observed On
EKG
sinus
tachycardia was observed in 6 cases(10%).
8) 41 cases were treated with doxycycline, and 23 cases were treated with chloramphenicol. All cases recorvered.
